The reality of the church-planting process is that it is one filled to the brim with everyone's favorite word: change. Since our soft launch of our online community in August, we are already unintelligible from the early days. We've evolved. We've trimmed the fat. People have come and gone (yes, already!). Plans have changed and events have outright fizzled.
However, we've also built a Twitch community that is 250 strong as of this publication. Our Discord community has nearly 20 members. We've given away 7 games. We're meeting new people at every event and livestream that we host. We're making a positive difference in the lives of nerds, geeks, and gamers. While the details yesterday, today, and tomorrow may be ever-changing, the reality of our calling remains ever-vigilant.
Especially during this exciting time of evolution in the gaming market, it's an exciting time to be a nerd, geek, and gamer. I'm proud of how far we've come already and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us in the new year. But let's not get ahead of ourselves - 2020 has six weeks left and so much can happen in that time.
What's next for us here at Checkpoint? I'm hopeful that we will take our time and energy to ask ourselves an important question as we approach a new year: just why are we here? To ask the ever-prescient Passover question: what makes this night different than any other? What makes Checkpoint different than any other church? The root of the answer lies in a single pronoun: you. What do you want 2021 to look like? How can we calibrate together and plan for an exciting future? I hope you'll join me in thinking on just that.
God loves you. I love you. You matter. Be boldly blessed.
