We're nearing the end of the first month of Checkpoint Church. That's a terrifying, humbling, amazing benchmark just on the horizon. It's mind-blowing to me how quickly time has passed and how we are already evolving - growing and changing.
I'd like to let you readers in on a sneak peek behind the curtain of my process. At the start of each month, I take as much as necessary and answer an inventory I created called the "virtue audit." Cringy, I know. It has a series of questions that are designed to hold me accountable to this called, such as 'how are you serving nerds, geeks, and gamers?' Some questions are real doozies: 'how is Jesus present in this ministry?'
All of these questions serve as a container for the rapid growth and evolution that is expected and encouraged in this venture. I never want to try to contain the greatness of God, but I also believe it's my due diligence as the 'nerd pastor' to make sure we keep our eyes on what makes us who we are as a Church.
For me, that involves this church being one for the nerds, geeks, and gamers. It involves a church that is communal and welcoming. It involves a church that loves Jesus and strives to grow in everything we do. It involves growth - numerically, we should be reaching new people always; and spiritually, we should be developing leaders. Beyond that, I'm open and ready for God to do amazing things in us.
God loves you. We love you. You matter.
Be boldly blessed.
