    LVL2 According To LVL2

With the release of our most recent LVL2 newsletter, we have entered into our final quarter of the inaugural year since it's inception. For those who haven't heard, LVL2 is the first step towards serving alongside of Checkpoint Church. It's less of a responsibility and more of a mindset shift. Rather than I tell you, I asked some of our existing LVL2 members to share their thoughts on what LVL2 means to them... StainedGlaz: Lvl 2 means becoming a player rather than a spectato

Ms. Marvel and the Welcoming Reach of Jesus

Have you ever felt like the odd one out? Like the one that no one was quite able to relate to? Maybe you’re a bit weird in a world of normies, or perhaps you have something about you that stands out in a crowd. As lonely as that can feel, you aren’t alone. Plenty of us out there feel like we don’t fit in or belong anywhere. For this video, I will look at the new Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel's main character Kamala Khan. She is a perfect example of how to and how not to embrace

    Moving Forward Together

Checkpoint Church moves fast. Like, crazy fast. Sometimes it can be overwhelming to remember where we were last month, let alone last year. As we swiftly approach the mid-year mark for 2022, it feels like now is a good time to do a pulse check on the community. So, we're releasing a Mid-Year Feedback form to get some helpful ideas on where we're headed in the second half of 2022. We have plans, and plenty we are already working on, but it's always beneficial to gauge where ou

Nerd Pastor Interprets the STRANGER THINGS Viral Song 'Running Up That Hill' by Kate Bush

Stranger Things Season 4 Part One has graced us with its remarkable presence, and maybe you’re still recovering from the late-night binge like I am. Regardless of all of this season's shocks, twists, and turns, I think we can all agree on the one cameo no one was expecting: Kate Bush. A phenomenal artist of the past and a relative niche one at that, I’m not sure that Kate expected the renaissance her anthology is now receiving. But the song is more than just an epic moment; i

    Innovate, Rinse, Repeat

Constant and attentive innovation is necessary for the digital church. The world online moves quickly and unapologetically. This nature has resulted in our actions as a community having to be equally rapid in evolution. For instance - when Discord added a Clubhouse-clone to its list of features, we had to ask ourselves if/when to utilize that feature. We decided that it wasn't the time, but clearly, Discord chose to implement it for a reason. Some communities needed it, which

The JEDI Will HUNT Themselves! What does this mean (and why Jesus says it's good)

Look - this may just be my giant man-crush on Ewan McGregor talking... but I love the latest Star Wars series Kenobi. From the sets to the story to the cast to the cameos - it is my absolute favorite thing that Star Wars has given us in a long time... aside from Visions, that doesn't count. But more than anything, I find myself gripped by Kenobi as a Christian. As usual, there is a severe bit of overlap and faith-based inspiration behind the storytelling - I mean, the force b

Nerds of a Feather Study Together

I might be biased, but I love our weekly nerdy sermons. I love getting to craft them as a pastor, sure. But as a nerd, I love that they even get to exist. It brings me joy to see the words Darkhold, Book of Vishanti, and Holy Bible in the same script. These are doing a necessary deed. Even if just one person likes Dr. Strange but doesn't know Jesus watched this video - it's all worth it. We've come a long way from Advent of the Nerd. We've been creating these nerdy sermons fo

How can The Darkhold and the Book of Vishanti help us to better understand the Holy Bible?

The newest MCU entry of Dr. Strange and MoM hit theaters a few weeks and - people got me sweating. We need to address that Wanda is a bad person. Like - she’s not one to emulate. I see so many people putting her on this weird momma pedestal and like… no. We need to talk about his. As someone who is now the parent of two precious and wonderful bebes, I need to be very clear that this is not a movie about protecting children. It’s a movie about being corrupted beyond belief. Ho

Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk

One of the biggest challenges of an online, unlocalized church is finding intentional ways to serve together. It would be challenging for all of Checkpoint to meet up at a Soup Kitchen and serve food - where would we even meet? Would we have to drive six hours just to offer up ourselves? Once or twice a year is fine, but what if we are seeking out ways to do more? Normally, the way that we answer this conundrum is fairly obvious - digital problems require digital solutions. W
